Malta — if you were scammed

Official reporting routes and practical steps for people in Malta.

All countries

Immediate steps

  1. Stop further payments and do not share authentication codes or wallet recovery phrases.
  2. Preserve evidence: chats, invoices, IBAN/wallet details, domains, and transaction IDs.
  3. Contact your bank or payment institution in Malta and request fraud escalation.
  4. If crypto was involved, notify the VFA / exchange support with full TXID history.

Report the fraud

  • Malta Police Force — report cybercrime / fraud through official police channels: pulizija.gov.mt
  • Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) — consumer warnings and complaints about licensed or bogus financial firms: mfsa.mt
  • Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) — for suspicious financial activity context, see guidance on fiaumalta.org

Useful extras

  • Reset credentials on email and finance apps; enable MFA.
  • Do not engage “recovery specialists” who contact you first and demand fees. Cross-check with Fake recovery.
  • Keep your police / MFSA reference numbers for banks and exchanges.
