Canada — if you were scammed

Official reporting routes and practical steps for residents of Canada.

All countries

Immediate steps

  1. Stop all further transfers and do not share one-time codes or seed phrases.
  2. Save evidence: chats, emails, transaction IDs, wallet addresses, phone numbers, websites.
  3. Notify your bank, credit union, or card issuer and ask about recall / dispute options.
  4. If crypto was involved, contact the exchange or wallet provider’s support with TXIDs.

Report the fraud

  • Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) — national intake for fraud reports: antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca
  • Local police — file a report with your municipal or provincial police service and keep the file number.
  • Investment / securities — report suspected securities fraud to your provincial/territorial securities regulator (via the CSA network).

Useful extras

  • Change passwords on email and financial accounts; enable MFA.
  • Warn family members if scammers may contact them next.
  • Be wary of anyone who cold-contacts you offering to “recover” funds for an upfront fee — that is often another scam. Read Fake recovery.
