FOMO in crypto: fear dressed as a deadline

Fear of missing out is the emotion that turns someone else’s green candle into your market order.

FOMO — fear of missing out — is what happens when a coin is ripping, the chat is full of rockets, and your brain decides that not buying is the risky choice. Screenshots of other people’s gains beat any spreadsheet. You size up, skip the stop, and tell yourself you will “only” be late if you wait for a pullback.

Scam and hype machines are built for that feeling. Countdown timers, “ten spots left”, fake PnL cards and influencers who “aped the whole bag” are not analysis; they are pace-setters. By the time FOMO peaks, early holders are often the exit liquidity. The antidote is boring: decide why you would own something before the candle appears, cap position size, and treat the urge to buy “before it is too late” as a reason to pause, not to click.

FOMO will not disappear. Naming it when your thumb hovers over buy is enough to keep it from running the wallet.
