Credits blockchain: ICO speed claims, slow reality

Credits raised tens of millions in 2018 on million-TPS promises; mainnet and token reality arrived much later.

Credits was a loud 2018 initial coin offering (ICO) pitch: up to a million transactions per second, sub-second finality, cheap fees — infrastructure for finance and the internet of things, not another meme coin. Aggregators later put total raise figures in the low twenties of millions of dollars after a short hard-cap sprint.

Delivery lagged the brochure. Mainnet only appeared in spring 2019; the swap from the ERC-20 stand-in to a native coin waited until December 2019. That gap alone is a reminder that ICO dashboards sell roadmaps, not working rails. The project did not vanish — public repositories and roadmap notes continued years later — but “still coding” is not the same as matching the original performance theatre.

When a chain sells engineering miracles before mainnet, underwrite the team’s delivery history, not the TPS slide. Prefer networks you can measure in production. Treat leftover ICO tokens as speculative leftovers unless withdrawals, validators and real usage are obvious without a brochure.
