Clifford Chance’s name in a recovery chat is a warning

A Magic Circle firm’s homepage is real; a WhatsApp “partner” reclaiming your crypto usually is not.

Clifford Chance is a well-known international law firm. Its public site is cliffordchance.com. Corporate clients hire it for cross-border deals and disputes. That footprint is exactly why cold “recovery” operators paste the name into emails and chat bios after someone has already lost money to a fake broker.

The firm’s ordinary work is not a retail crypto refund desk that finds you on Telegram and invoices a success fee in USDT. Scam scripts borrow recognisable letterheads the same way they borrow regulator logos: send a PDF, demand a retainer, invent a court or escrow step. Our longer checklist on how to check a recovery lawyer still applies — bar registration, engagement letter, no seed phrases, no “unlock” top-ups.

If someone claims to act for Clifford Chance (or any Magic Circle firm) on your lost-investment file, hang up and verify through the firm’s own switchboard or website directory. Do not pay a stranger because the PDF kerning looked expensive.
