How to clear YouTube watch and search history

Watch history and search history are separate switches — you can delete either, or stop recording both.

YouTube keeps two useful-but-nosy lists when you are signed in: videos you watched, and terms you searched. Both live under Google’s My Activity tools, and both can be trimmed or paused without deleting your channel.

On the web, open YouTube’s history page (or Google’s YouTube activity view), delete individual items, clear everything, or pause recording so new watches stop being saved. Search queries have their own clear/pause controls on the same family of pages. In the mobile app, Account → History (sometimes labelled “Watch history”) reaches the same controls; on a TV or console, look under the Guide for Watched. Changes made while signed in follow the account across devices; if you are signed out, you are only editing that browser or app’s local history.

Pausing history does not erase comments you already posted — those sit in a separate Google activity list if you want to edit or remove them. None of this is a scam topic, but it is a good hygiene habit before you lend a laptop, sell a device, or simply stop feeding the recommendation engine. Official steps change occasionally; if a button has moved, Google’s YouTube help article on watch history is the source of truth, not a random “cleaner” app from a chat.
